The mother of a felon whose “handsome” booking photo went viral after it was posted on the Stockton Police Department’s Facebook account is hoping to show a softer side of her son as she tries to raise funds for his legal defense.

Katherine Angier created a fundraising page in an effort to dispel certain stereotypes about her son, Jeremy Meeks, according to her post on the website.

“He’s my son and he is so sweet,” she said. “Please help him to get a fair trial or else he’ll be railroaded.”

Angier is hoping to collect up to $25,000 with the “Free Jeremy” page. In the first 14 hours, benefactors had donated $633.
