An Indiana man is in custody after he allegedly killed a fellow resident of a sober living facility in Irvine Monday morning.
The Irvine Police Department announced on X, formerly Twitter, that the homicide occurred at 2 Tyler Place, near the intersection with Boulder Creek Way, around 6 a.m. Police spokesperson Kyle Oldoerp confirmed with KTLA that the location is a six-person sober living home.
The victim, an 18-year-old man whose identity has not been released, was found seriously injured with blunt-force trauma injuries. He was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The suspected killer, 24-year-old Baxton Tysean Hill, had fled the scene but was taken into custody in Apple Valley by the California Highway Patrol just before 9 a.m., Oldoerp said. Police initially said Hill was captured near Barstow before correcting the location.
Both Hill and the victim lived at that sober living home and were believed to be roommates. The attack occurred in one of the home’s bedrooms, Oldoerp said.
A possible motive has not been released, and the exact cause of death remains under investigation.
