An investigation is underway after a man was found shot to death near a hiking trail in the Tarzana neighborhood of Los Angeles Friday.

The incident was reported around 12:30 a.m. when a security guard from a nearby community discovered the body near the 3500 block of Winford Drive.

Officers said the man had suffered gunshot wounds and was unresponsive when they arrived at the location, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department told KTLA.

The unidentified man, believed to be in his 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Video showed several shell casings and crime scene tape surrounding the area where the body was found.

No further details about the shooting and no description of a possible suspect were released.

Investigators are searching the area for any security video or witnesses that may help with the investigation.
