A shooting about 14 miles east of Palmdale left a man dead and another in critical condition early Sunday, officials said.

Deputies responded to a call about a shooting in the 13800 block of East Avenue R 6 in Littlerock around 6 a.m. and found two men in their 50s suffering from apparent gunshot wounds, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. It’s unclear where the shooting specifically occurred, but video from the scene later Sunday morning shows deputies assessing a cordoned-off area along a dirt road near some trailers on Longview Road and East Avenue R 6.

One of the men was shot in the upper torso and was pronounced dead at the scene, the Sheriff’s Department said. The second victim was shot in the upper and lower torso and was taken to a hospital in critical condition, according to investigators.

The relationship between the pair was unclear, the Sheriff’s Department said.

A local resident who did not want to be identified said she didn’t hear gunshots but heard dogs barking around the time of the shooting. She could not confirm whether or not the men lived in the area.
