Brian Gonzales, aka Brian Hammons, confronted ex-girlfriend Emily Fox, 22, and Jerred Scott, 24, at Fox’s apartment complex in the 7600 block of Oso Avenue on Sunday, according to prosecutors.

At one point, Scott attempted to escape and Fox dialed 911 while Gonzales chased down Scott, the District Attorney’s Office stated in a news release.

After catching up to Scott, Gonzales allegedly forced him back to Fox’s location at gunpoint before fatally shooting both of them, according to the news release.

Fox was a 22-year-old California State University, Northridge student who planned to go into the field of law, neighbor Lisa Lyons told KTLA.

Scott, a resident of La Mesa in San Diego County, left behind a son who was about 1 year old, a friend said.

The DA’s office described him as Fox’s new boyfriend.

Gonzales was charged with two counts of murder with special circumstance allegations of murder during the commission of a kidnapping and multiple murders, the DA’s Office stated.

Gonzales was being held without bail. If convicted of the charges, Gonzales faces the death penalty or life in prison without the possibility of parole.

The decision whether to seek the death penalty would be made at a later date, according to the news release.
