A man who was shot by a sheriff’s deputy at the downtown Santa Monica Metro station was charged Wednesday with attempted murder for allegedly trying to stab two deputies.
Thomas Francis Napack, 31, of Los Angeles is expected to be arraigned Thursday at the Airport Courthouse, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.
He was charged with two counts of attempted murder of a peace officer, with a knife-use allegation, and two counts of assault upon a peace officer.
With a knife in each hand, Napack allegedly charged at two Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputies who were stationed at the Expo Line Metro station on Oct. 4. One of the deputies shot Napack, who was hospitalized in critical condition.
Two kitchen knives were recovered at the scene, authorities said at the time. Neither deputy was injured.
Napack faces up to life in state prison if convicted as charged. His bail is expected to be set at more than $2 million.
