A 26-year-old man was charged with three counts of murder Monday in connection with the shooting deaths of three people, including a 9-year-old boy, in San Bernardino.
Trayvon Brown was charged in the triple shooting that took place about 9:15 p.m. July 8, according to a news release from the San Bernardino Police Department.
Brown is accused of fatally shooting 9-year-old Travon Williams, the boy’s father, 26-year-old Travon Lamar Williams, and 25-year-old Samathy Mahan.
All three victims were leaving Superior Liquor on North Del Rosa Avenue when they were shot.
Brown allegedly approached the victims from behind as they exited the store and opened fire.
Investigators believed Brown was targeting Mahan, a documented gang member and recently paroled felon. It was not yet known whether he had any connection to the father and son.
Police released photos from the scene that showed the shooter, prompting dozens of tipsters to contact investigators and say Brown was the suspect, a police news release stated.
Brown was arrested Thursday, July 14, after going to check in with his probation officer. He has refused to provide a statement about the triple shooting, police said.
He was scheduled to be arraigned on Monday, a representative of the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office said.
