Los Angeles County Sheriff’s officials Tuesday arrested a man in downtown L.A. after he allegedly damaged property at a Metro Green Line Station using a baseball bat.

The incident occurred about noon at the Vermont station in the 1600 block of South Vermont Avenue, officials said in a news release.

The suspect allegedly smashed a Metro information booth, valued at several thousands dollars then left the area, possibly on a train, officials said.

Witnesses told authorities that the suspect swung the bat at riders, which was confirmed with a recording of the incident.

Officials spotted a man matching a description of the suspect in front of the Hall of Justice in downtown.

When authorities approached the man, he allegedly became agitated, began pacing back and forth while holding the bat and had on a large back pack, officials said.

Deputies closed off the area during the incident for safety purposes and specially-trained officers began talking to the man.

After hours of negotiating with him, the man was taken into custody.

He was arrested and booked into jail on suspicion of felony vandalism and his bail was set an $25,000. The man has not been identified.
