A man who was arrested after he allegedly broke into an Alhambra home Saturday attempted a daring escape from the police vehicle he was riding in, authorities said.

The incident began around 3 a.m. when residents called to report a break-in by a man who was screaming for help, a post on the Alhambra Police Department’s Facebook page stated.

Officers arrested the man, who was allegedly under the influence of drugs, according to the post.

On the way to the station, however, police said the man tried to escape by kicking out the window and breaking the window frame.

His attempt failed, according to the post, which added that the department now had “one less squad car” as a result of the incident.

The man’s name has not been released, and it was not immediately clear what charges he faced.
