A 71-year-old man died Sunday after a fire broke out at a hillside garage in Northeast L.A.’s Mount Washington neighborhood, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Firefighters responded to a fire in the 1800 block of West Alder Drive (map), near Elyria Canyon Park, according to a Fire Department tweet around 3:40 a.m. The blaze was initially thought to be at a single-story home, but was later clarified to have been at a detached garage.

Some 29 firefighters worked 26 minutes to extinguish the blaze.

The man died in a vehicle that was parked inside the garage, the Fire Department tweeted.
