A 34-year-old man died Saturday after being found shot in Whittier, officials said.

Officers from the Whittier Police Department responded about 12:11 p.m. to the 8000 block of Washington Avenue (map), where they found the victim unresponsive, according to a statement on the city’s website. The location is in a residential area near Lydia Jackson Elementary School.

The officers performed CPR on the man before he was transported to Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, the statement said.

The victim was a resident of Whittier, the website said. His name was not released, pending notification of family.

No other information was immediately available.

An investigation is ongoing.
