The scenic road that provides a crucial pathway to Pepperdine University could be shut down for several days after a mudslide Wednesday morning, according to officials.
Caltrans said the slide closed Malibu Canyon Road between Piuma and Francisco Ranch roads. Visuals from the scene showed a slew of massive rocks and mud blocking both sides of the two-lane road.
By the estimation of the Los Angeles County Fire Department, the road could be closed for “several days.” At 10:30 a.m., the Malibu Public Safety Department provided a two- or three-day expectation for clean-up efforts.
Officials urged travelers to avoid the area. Pepperdine canceled all in-person classes on Wednesday as a result. As of Wednesday afternoon, there was no word whether classes would resume as scheduled on Thursday.
Bus service at Malibu High and Middle Schools were canceled Wednesday, though class went on as scheduled.
