A Long Beach man was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole on Friday for the murder and carjacking of a Cal State Northridge student over the sale of his car.

Agustin Rosendo Fernandez, 30, was found guilty in June of the first-degree murder of 23-year-old Abdullah Alkadi. The jury also found that the murder was committed during a robbery and carjacking.

Alkadi listed his Audi A5 convertible on Craigslist for $36,500 in September 2014 and Fernandez responded to the ad with a $35,000 counteroffer.

The two men met in Northridge the same day, where Fernandez stabbed the Saudi Arabian engineering student to death before stealing the car, according to Deputy District Attorney Cynthia Barnes.

Alkadi’s body was discovered a month later in the desert off the 10 Freeway in Indio, Barnes said.

Fernandez wanted to keep both the money and the car, according to police at the time of his arrest.

Alkadi’s car was later found parked at Fernandez’s apartment in the 6800 block of Long Beach Boulevard.
