A Long Beach man is dead after he was shot while inside his own home in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

The man, whose identity has not been released, was in his home in the 2200 block of Chestnut Avenue when he was shot a few minutes after 2:30 a.m., the Long Beach Police Department said in a news release.

Officers found the man suffering from a wound to his upper body, and he was taken to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his wounds, police said. The shooter fled before the officers’ arrival.

Police have not detailed if the shooter was also inside the home or if the shot was fired from outside, nor have they released a possible motive.
