A carjacking suspect was arrested after a lengthy, dangerous pursuit through Los Angeles County Wednesday night.

The male driver was initially wanted out of Riverside on suspicion of carjacking and domestic violence. A woman reported a domestic violence incident that occurred against her involving the suspect who then stole her vehicle, according to the Riverside Police Department.

When the suspect was spotted by authorities, he refused to yield, leading officers on a pursuit. As the suspect headed onto the freeway, California Highway Patrol officers took over the chase.

Throughout the pursuit which spanned multiple freeways and involved multiple law enforcement agencies, the suspect traveled at high speeds toward the San Gabriel Valley area and later the Agoura Hills area. At times, the driver hit speeds of up to 100 miles per hour as patrol units trailed closely behind.

While transitioning onto the 101 Freeway, the suspect hit a median, sending sparks flying from underneath the car. A front tire was damaged after that crash and the suspect began slowing down.

Officers used a PIT maneuver on the vehicle, spinning the car around while knocking out a tire and a rear bumper.

However, after a moment of stillness, the suspect turned back around and continued speeding away while dragging the damaged bumper behind him.

The car continued deteriorating as the suspect was driving on three tires and one rim located on the front passenger side.

After arriving in the Agoura Hills area on the 101 Freeway, officers used a second PIT maneuver, spinning the suspect’s car around and effectively disabling it. Another patrol car drove head-on toward the suspect’s vehicle and pushed it onto a dirt embankment.

Officers swarmed the vehicle and the male suspect was tackled to the ground and placed into handcuffs.

He was arrested on charges of domestic violence, carjacking, and evading police. Authorities said he also had an outstanding warrant out of San Bernardino County.
