Eliezer Vera, a chief in the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Technology and Support Division, announced his candidacy for sheriff at a press conference Wednesday.

Vera, who joined the Sheriff’s Department in 1988 as a deputy, hopes to replace Sheriff Alex Villanueva in next year’s election.
