Los Angeles police shot and wounded a murder suspect at a Rosemead home Tuesday evening after an hourslong standoff, which began after detectives attempted to serve search and arrest warrants at the location, authorities said.

Tien Hua, thought to be about 28 years old, was wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of another man that occurred Sunday evening in the Hollywood Hills, said LAPD Sgt. Marlon Marrache.

After identifying Hua as a suspect, investigators on Tuesday went to the residence in the 3500 block of Strang Avenue in Rosemead and attempted to execute the search warrant, the sergeant said.

Hua, who was alone at the time and believed to be armed then barricaded himself at the home, prompting a response from SWAT and crisis-negotiation teams, according to police. A stalemate ensued and lasted for hours.

“The next step was to deploy tear gas,” Marrache said, adding that the tactic proved ineffective. “After that, the SWAT members went inside the house and that’s when an officer-involved shooting occurred with the suspect.”

Hua was injured in the shooting, according to police, who said his condition was not immediately known. No officers were hurt.

The suspect had been sought after the killing of 27-year-old Henry Estrada, who was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds about 8:40 p.m. Sunday on a street in the Hollywood Hills, the Los Angeles Police Department said.

Officers and firefighter-paramedics responded to that incident, in the 2000 block of North Sycamore Avenue, where Estrada was pronounced dead at the scene.

He had been running away from the gunman on nearby Camrose Drive before he was shot, according to the LAPD.

Family members said Estrada was a father of two. The victim’s sister set up a GoFundMe page to help pay for his funeral expenses.
