The Los Angeles Police Department is investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash in Van Nuys last month that resulted in the death of an elderly man.
It happened on June 30 around 8:55 p.m. near the intersection of Sepulveda Boulevard and Haynes Street, police said.
According to the LAPD, a vehicle was traveling south on Sepulveda when it hit the man, who was walking across the street in the middle of the block outside of a crosswalk.
The vehicle struck the pedestrian and then fled the scene without stopping or providing medical assistance as required by California law.
Paramedics from the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the scene and transported the elderly man to the hospital where he later died from his injuries.
The pedestrian has not yet been identified by police say he’s between the ages of 60 and 70.
Police say the deadly crash is a reminder for both motorists and pedestrians to obey traffic laws. Motorists are required by law to pull over if they are involved in an accident as soon as possible, notify emergency services and remain on scene to identify themselves.
The LAPD Valley Traffic Detectives are investigating the deadly crash and is requesting anyone who may have witnessed the incident or caught it on security footage to come forward.
Witnesses can contact LAPD Traffic Officer Ruiz at 818-644-8026 or Officer Reyes at 818-644-8114. Anonymous tips can be made online or by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
Those who provide information that leads to the arrest and conviction of drivers involved in hit-and-run crashes may be eligible for rewards of up to $50,000 through a City of Los Angeles initiative.
