At least one Los Angeles Police Department officer opened fire in Watts Friday morning, striking a man police say was armed with a gun.

Around 6:40 a.m. in an alley in the 2100 block of East 103rd Street, an armed man was allegedly waving his handgun around in the alley, according to Lt. Letisia Ruiz of the LAPD.

When officers arrived, the unidentified man “produced a firearm,” prompting police to open fire, Ruiz said.
