An 8-year-old boy in La Puente will attempt to break a world record next month by attempting to run seven marathons on seven continents.

Jordan Ramirez has already completed 125 5Ks, 14 10Ks and eight half-marathons, but he has a bigger goal.

The third grader is hoping to match the achievement of his sister, Blanca Ramirez, who said she broke the record as the youngest female to run seven marathons on seven continents when she was 12.

Jordan Ramirez now wants to set a record. He will begin his quest with his first marathon on Nov. 5 in Australia. Then Jordan Ramirez will journey across the globe to match his sisters feat.

Jordan Ramirez runs almost every day but says he also likes to play with Legos and tell jokes when he isn’t training.

“I started when I was 4-years-old,” said Jordan Ramirez, who often distracts himself by thinking about video games while he’s running. “It’s fun and it keeps me healthy.”

But Jordan Ramirez doesn’t just run for himself. The young athlete often carries an American flag in honor of the men and women of the military as well as first responders.

He also placed 58 roses along the rout of a half-marathon in Long Beach earlier this month in honor of the Las Vegas shooting victims.

Jordan Ramirez will be accompanied by his big sister as he attempts to complete the seven marathons beginning next month.
