Adam Abdul-Jabbar, the son of legendary NBA and Lakers player Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, has been arrested after allegedly stabbing a neighbor in San Clemente, the Orange County Sheriff’s Department said Friday.
The stabbing took place about 10 p.m. Tuesday, according to Carrie Braun with the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
Adam Abdul-Jabbar’s neighbor suffered multiple injuries and was able to take himself to the hospital for treatment.
Deputies responded to the stabbing call and, after investigating, took Abdul-Jabbar into custody, according to Braun.
The 28-year-old was booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. He was released that same day after posting bail, Braun said.
No other details were provided about the incident. A booking photo has not been released.
A man who identified himself as the neighbor told KTLA he’s known Abdul-Jabbar since he was a child. Ray Winsor said that Abdul-Jabbar currently lives with a woman who helped raise him.
Winsor had told him months ago that he should help the woman out more. He made a similar comment Tuesday night and that’s when Winsor said he was stabbed and received multiple wounds.
“I think he’s got some serious problems,” Winsor said. “I think he tried to kill me. I mean, it could’ve been one inch this way, one inch that way, I could’ve been dead.”
KTLA asked the man what he wanted to see happen to Abdul-Jabbar.
“I don’t know,” Winsor said. “I want to see him get some help.”
