Firefighters in Oceanside came to the rescue Sunday when a dog got stuck between two storage containers on a school playground.

The 12-year-old Rhodesian ridgeback, named “Spike,” somehow became wedged in a space less than a foot wide while playing with children at South Oceanside Elementary School, Battalion Chief Pete Lawrence of the Oceanside Fire Department told KSWB in San Diego.

Firefighters used the Jaws of Life to pry the metal containers a little further apart, according to KSWB.

It took a few minutes, but Spike was finally able to walk out of the narrow space and into the waiting arms of his worried family.

Spike’s wagging tail could be heard slapping the sides of the metal containers as he made he way out, KSWB reported.

“This was a welcome break from what we normally deal with,” Lawrence told KSWB.

KTLA’s sister station KSWB in San Diego contributed to this story.
