A man is dead after a traffic crash in Irvine on Sunday, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred at about 3:30 p.m. on the southbound 405 Freeway, north of Irvine Center Drive, according to the CHP.

The collision involved a single vehicle striking a tree, added Capt. Sean Doran of the Orange County Fire Authority.

The cause of the crash has not yet been released.

A hard closure of the freeway will not be needed, as the vehicle is off the roadway, according to the CHP.
