Detectives are investigating after a woman was found dead at her home in Rancho Palos Verdes, and her husband was found dead at the couple’s other home in Lake Arrowhead, officials said Thursday.

Authorities are handling the investigation as an apparent murder-suicide.

The incident took place around 2:47 p.m. along the 27800 block of Palmeras Place, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. The Lomita Sheriff’s Station received a call for service from concerned family members to check the welfare of a man and a woman who live there.

“The husband … sent an email or some kind of written correspondence … to his family members, who called,” Lt. Derrick Alfred with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.

When deputies arrived, a 45-year-old woman was found suffering traumatic injuries, and pronounced dead at the scene.

Deputies did not find the husband at that location, but later learned that the couple also owned another home in the city of Lake Arrowhead in the San Bernardino Mountains.

San Bernardino County sheriff’s deputies responded to that home, where the husband was found dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Officials have not released the couple’s names, but neighbors identified them as Dr. Martyne E. Bonzo, a physical therapist, and her husband, Tony Lopez.

Homicide detectives are not searching for any other suspects. The investigation is ongoing.
