The mother of a 2-year-old boy who died in Eastvale Thursday has been arrested, police confirmed.

The incident was reported as a child choking at about 8:45 a.m. in the 6000 block of Rosewood Way.

The boy’s parents brought him out to a front courtyard by their house because he was having a medical emergency, Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Brandi Swan told KTLA.

Paramedics tried resuscitating the toddler, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities later indicated the death was being investigated as a homicide and that the parents were being questioned.

The exact cause of death has not been determined, but the boy’s mother was arrested.

“There’s no outward signs that the child had an injury that would make us think that it was anything other than a medical emergency, but obviously investigations are done and that’s why we’re here, from start to finish we determine things that you can’t outwardly see,” Swan explained.

No further details about the incident have been released.
