A Hollywood makeup artist and special effects producer known for her work on feature films, including “Rebel Moon,” “Mean Girls” and “Babylon,” is slowly recovering after she was viciously stabbed more than 20 times in an attack earlier this month.
After enduring three surgeries in the last three days, friends of 35-year-old Allie Shehorn tell KTLA’s Rachel Menitoff that the makeup artist is in good spirits and is pushing through after the incredibly harrowing attack.
The violence unfolded on May 23rd when Shehorn’s ex-boyfriend, who she had just recently filed a restraining order against, allegedly broke into her Shadow Hills home, stabbed her repeatedly and fled.
“This is not the kind of thing that should happen to anybody,” Christine White, the 35-year-old’s surrogate mother, said. “You don’t think this is ever going to happen to you.”
White was staying with her surrogate the night of the attack.
“I found her and I had to go into the bedroom where it happened,” she said. “That wasn’t a pretty sight.”
Shehorn suffered multiple slashes to her neck, was cut up and down her arms and across her abdomen during the brutal assault.
As of today, friends say she has made progress, has been able to talk, eat and even crack a few jokes.
“The fact that she was able to get through what she did that night and how fast she’s recovering is really amazing,” friend Christopher Wayne told KTLA.
Emily MacDonald, another of Shehorn’s friends, said that while she will likely require a month-long hospital stay and a lot of post-operative physical therapy, the makeup artist’s resilience, humor and strength of character are carrying her through this difficult time.
“She’s been in really good spirits,” MacDonald said. “I feel like she’s comforting all of us, which is kind of how Allie is. Even when she’s at rock bottom, she’s still looking to see how she can lift other people up.”
Officials with the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed to KTLA that her alleged attacker fled the state after the violent assault.
According to the 35-year-old’s friends, her ex-boyfriend was eventually arrested in Texas.
In the meantime, Shehorn’s tight-knit group of friends are by her side in the intensive care unit where she continues to undergo surgeries to stop the bleeding and repair the tendons in her hands.
A GoFundMe has been organized to help with her mounting hospital bills.
