A Southland high school softball player who collapsed during a softball game in Fontana on Saturday has died, her family confirmed Wednesday.

“Tonight our beautiful Dana chose to go with the Lord,” her parents Larry and Julieta posted on her GoFundMe page. “We don’t yet understand his plan for her, but she will make a perfect angel.”

First baseman Dana Housley was at bat in the bottom of the eight inning when she suddenly felt dizzy.

“She turned to look at me, which I thought was kinda odd in the middle of the pitch, and she said ‘coach Angelo, I feel dizzy,'” Angelo Michaels told KTLA on Monday. “As she was walking toward me, her knees started to give way and I caught her.”

The Etiwanda High School student was unconscious as she was rushed off the field and transported to the hospital, her coach said.

Housley was participating in an elite travel tournament with California Thunder Softball.

It was believed she may have suffered a brain aneurysm, according to a post on her GoFundMe page. She had been on life support since Saturday.

On Wednesday, the 15-year-old’s parents expressed their thanks for the “outpouring of love and support for our daughter and our family during this devastating ordeal.”

“As we begin the healing process, we thank you all,” the post stated. “We will not forget your love, prayers, and support, nor will we ever forget the wonderful memories of our little girl, Dana Housley #21.”
