Inglewood police prepared for extra security at a Chris Brown concert at The Forum on Tuesday after 22 concertgoers were killed in a suicide attack in Manchester, UK.
Officers said in a press release that they have received no specific threats but would maintain heightened awareness at the concert in “an abundance of caution.”
“We have to get better at detecting these types of devices,” said Chief Charlie Beck with the Los Angeles Police Department at a press conference earlier in the day.
Many major cities across the country are enacting heightened security measures after 22 people were killed, including an 8-year-old girl, outside of an Ariana Grande concert at the Manchester Arena in Manchester.
Salman Abedi, 22, has been identified by police as the suspected suicide attacker who detonated a bomb as concertgoers exited the venue and ISIS has claimed responsibility, according to CNN.
Inglewood police encouraged the public to come to Tuesday’s concert in a statement and planned to uphold public safety at the event.
Some concertgoers who attended the Chris Brown concert told KTLA that they were disheartened and saddened by the attack in Manchester.
“It’s really sad because people were just out there trying to have fun and people lost their lives,” said Brittany Johnson.
Another concertgoer added that the attack made them more aware of their surroundings at Tuesday’s event.
“I think, if anything, I’m more alert and more aware of my surroundings,” said Alicia Johnson.
The Chris Brown: Party Tour concert was scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
