The officers were driving in an unmarked vehicle when they were shot at them from a residence near Tamarind Avenue and West Base Line Road around 6:35 p.m. Friday, according to a department news release.

The officers were not injured, nor did they return gunfire, according to Fontana police.

An “extensive search” was conducted, and police initially said around 4 a.m. that no one was arrested. But later in the morning Saturday, police announced that Daniel Castro, 22, and Michael Del Rio, 20, were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and gang enhancements.

Officers surrounded the home from which the gunfire emerged, and Inland Valley SWAT served a search warrant on the location, according to a police news release.

A .357 revolver was found, police said.
