A 55-year-old Glendale man posted bail one day after being arrested for allegedly killing a 4-year-old girl in a hit-and-run outside her home, local police said Sunday.
Shant Badleean self-surrendered after Friday’s deadly hit-and-run, the Glendale Police Department stated in a news release Saturday.
He was held in lieu of $50,000 bail, and was later released, police Sgt. Quinitero said Sunday.
Badleean had been arrested for allegedly killing a 4-year-old, identified by family as Violeta Khachaturyan.
The little girl was playing in her home’s yard around 5 p.m. Friday when she ran into the street and was struck by a hit-and-run driver.
The impact caused Violeta to be thrown 40 feet. She landed on another vehicle, shattering its rear window.
She was transported to Glendale Adventist Medical Center, where she died.
Mourners gathered Saturday after Badleean was arrested. A man who identified as the family’s spokesman told KTLA they were glad someone had been arrested.
“They are satisfied in a sense where yesterday they didn’t know if there was ever going to be an answer,” Arshak Bareghamyan said. “Finally we have seen justice served.”
Badleean was expected to appear in court on Tuesday.
