Four decades ago, the body of a girl in her early teens was found dumped on the side of the road near Artesia Boulevard and Wilmington Avenue in Compton.

She was naked and had been shot twice in the head before investigators believe she was thrown from a moving vehicle, according to Sgt. Frederick Reynolds with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

That was Sept. 13, 1975, and 40 years later the girl called Jane Doe No. 51 remained unidentified and her killer unknown.

Kimberly Cheng reports for the KTLA News at 10 on Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2014.
