Craig Tanber, 37, was apprehended by Orange County Sheriff’s Department deputies about 6:15 a.m. at a Motel 6 in the 13000 block of Goldenwest Street, the law-enforcement agency announced in a news release.

The arrest occurred after investigators obtained information indicating Tanber was staying there, the statement said, adding that SWAT members entered a motel room and took him into custody without incident.

He was expected to be booked into the Orange County Jail on suspicion of murder, the Sheriff’s Department said.

The fatal stabbing was reported about 12:15 a.m. Monday near Patsy’s Irish Pub, located at 28971 Golden Lantern St. Deputies responded to the establishment and found a man suffering from a stab wound to the upper torso, the department said.

Shayan Mazroei, 22, of Laguna Niguel, was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Monday evening, investigators released a photo of Tanber and described him as “a documented gang member with a significant criminal history.”

Following his arrest Friday, sheriff’s officials said his bail would be set at $1 million. He was scheduled to appear in court Tuesday.

The investigation was ongoing.
