Euna Washington has been filled with pride since finding out her daughter made the team a few weeks ago, “I can’t tell you how many times I cried,” she said through tears of joy Thursday.

But the single mother, who works as a nurse at Long Beach Memorial Hospital, soon came to realize just how much it would cost to bring her son with her to Rio.

A family friend set up a GoFundMe account to help finance the trip so mom and little brother Gabe Washington can watch Ariana Washington compete in the Olympics.

“My mom took me to every track meet … Whenever I see my sister I will be happy to see her,” Gabe Washington said.

Ariana Washington, a graduate of Long Beach Poly High School and student at the University of Oregon, qualified for the Olympics despite suffering a broken foot last year.

As of Friday morning, the GoFundMe account reached it’s goal of $8,000 and was still growing.
