Free dog and cat adoptions were being offered at Los Angeles city animal shelters Black Friday through Cyber Monday, and at Riverside County shelters on Saturday.

The non-profit Best Friends Animal Society worked with Zappos.com, an online retailer, to offer the fee-free adoptions.

In addition to sponsoring the adoptions, Zappos planned to donate additional funds to the organization. The maximum allotment was set at $1.1 million.

The Riverside County Department of Animal Services also offered free pet adoptions on Saturday, according to the organization’s website.

The offer included the spaying or neutering of the animal, microchipping and vaccines at the time of adoption also at no additional cost. Fees for dog licensing were to be decided based on the owner’s residence.

The County of Los Angeles Department of Animal Care and Control was not offering free adoptions for Black Friday weekend, but would have upcoming promotions, according to a spokesman.
