Firefighters managed to hold a brush fire near Chatsworth at 25 acres Friday, keeping the flames from traveling toward homes in the area, according to fire officials.
Earlier, the Ventura County Fire Department said homes were threatened by the small brush that erupted in Box Canyon, burning in an area near where Los Angeles and Ventura counties meet. Sky5 was overhead around 1 p.m. as some flames burned close to a large white building.
The blaze erupted around noon and was spread by light winds, fire officials said. At 2:15 p.m., officials tweeted the fire’s forward progress had been stopped by firefighters.
Thick, grayish white plumes of smoke were emerging from a rocky area with large boulders earlier in the afternoon, with some small flames burning atop a hill and a few traveling halfway across a hillside, aerial footage shows.
Officials said the fire was burning uphill. A row of bright red flames were seen burning near a white building on the hill, leaving a trail of blackened landscape as a fire helicopter dropped retardant over the area.
No evacuations have been ordered and no injuries reported.
In a tweet, fire officials said the blaze was “mixed within the rocks making it difficult to make access to the fires edge… Winds are light but still helping the fire spread.”
