In about an hour Saturday afternoon, Los Angeles firefighters battled multiple brush fires across the city amid a brutal and continuing heat wave.

A brush fire in Granada Hills burned 1 acre of vegetation, destroyed two vehicles and resulted in a firefighter being evaluated for heat complaints near Knollwood Country Club’s golf course.

The fire, which was reported at 3:23 p.m. at 16650 West Knollwood Drive, was put out in just over an hour. It resulted in three homes with mild roof and exterior damage, the Los Angeles Fire Department said.

Around the same time as the Granada Hills fire, the Fire Department extinguished another blaze on Radio Hill, just north of Chinatown in the Elysian Park area.

That fire, which was reported at 3:29 p.m. at 1200 North Bishops Road, burned light grass but didn’t damage any structures, authorities said. Two acres of brush were burned and the flames were put out within an hour.

Then, at 4:24 p.m., a third vegetation fire was reported at 401 N. Almar Ave. in Pacific Palisades. It was knocked down in 25 minutes, authorities added.

The quarter-acre blaze threatened a structure but firefighters were able to protect it, authorities said.

Los Angeles firefighters also on Saturday assisted on a brush fire in that burned 45 acres and prompted evacuations in Burbank.
