Monday was expected to be the busiest shipping day of the year, with FedEx predicting more than 20 million packages to be moved or delivered, according to a company spokeswoman.
In all, about 290 million packages were expected to be delivered between Black Friday and Christmas Eve.
Last-minute shoppers were advised to purchase all items that required ground delivery by Wednesday.
Those willing to pay extra for express delivery were advised to place orders by Dec. 23.
