The Los Angeles Police Department continued their investigation following a police shooting in Hollywood that left a man in body armor dead on Saturday.
Officers were responding to a call around 2:35 p.m. when a black sedan suddenly pulled in front of them and backed into their police car, LAPD said.
The driver of the black sedan exited the vehicle wearing body armor, and confronted the officers with “his right hand concealed behind him,” police said.
Officers exited their patrol car and say that the man moved toward them.
“The officers gave him commands, which he did not follow, and he started counting down, saying ‘3… 2… 1’ as he started to pull his hand from his back to the front,” Los Angeles Police Department Detective Meghan Aguilar told reporters.
Officers opened fire and the man was struck by gunfire, police said. No weapon was found.
Video from the scene showed a man lying in the street, covered in blood and wearing a bulletproof vest.
The sedan, which was covered in decals with conspiratorial messages like “new world order,” “governments of deception” and the numbers “333” and “666,” appeared to have its back bumper damaged as it was in contact with an LAPD vehicle.
No other information was immediately available. Police say the incident is an active investigation.
