A former social worker assigned to adult protective services was arrested in Corona Thursday for allegedly stealing thousands of dollars from at least two elderly clients.
Christine Tovar surrendered to officers at the Corona Police Department where she was booked on two counts of financial elder abuse and five counts of grand theft, according to a news release from the department.
Police began investigating Tovar last September after a tip from the Riverside County Department of Public Social Services that one of their employees had been accused of stealing, the release stated.
One of Tovar’s elderly clients claimed she stole cash and checks totaling $18,000, police said.
During the investigation, detectives identified a second elderly victim who Tovar was accused of stealing $4,000 from.
Anyone with information related to this case, or believes they were victimized by Tovar, was asked to contact Corona Police Sr. Detective Craig Taylor at 951-736-2348 or by email at Craig.Taylor@DiscoverCorona.com.
