The presidency is on the line as Americans head to the polls en masse Tuesday to elect a new commander-in-chief in a hotly contested race that has been fraught with controversy and scandal, and created a sharp political divide in the U.S.

While all eyes undoubtedly will be on the contest between Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton and Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, a slew of competitive U.S. Senate and House of Representative races could reshape which party controls Congress.

In California, a Democrat will replace longtime, outgoing Sen. Barbara Boxer in the U.S. Senate when voters choose between the state’s Attorney General, Kamala Harris, and Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez, who represents the state’s 46th District in Orange County.

Additionally, California voters will vote on 17 statewide propositions, including one that would legalize the recreational use of marijuana (Proposition 64), two that deal with the death penalty (propositions 62 and 66) and two regarding plastic bags (propositions 65 and 67).
