Police were searching for two men who assaulted and robbed an elderly couple inside their San Bernardino home, authorities said Thursday.

An 81-year-old man and 78-year-old woman were inside their home in the 2900 block of North Los Feliz Drive (map) on Wednesday night when someone knocked on their door and asked to retrieve property that they claimed was in the victims’ backyard, a news release from the San Bernardino Police Department stated.

The male victim went to the yard to help when one the robber assaulted him and forced him back inside the home, according to the release. The two men tied then up both victims, ransacked the home and fled with jewelry, cash and other property.

Both victims were taken to a hospital and treated. Their conditions were not immediately known.

Detectives were asking for the public’s help in identifying the robbers. Anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity in the area that night was asked to call Detective M. Block with the San Bernardino Police Department at 909-384-5742.
