The driver of a reportedly stolen tanker truck surrendered to officers in the Miracle Mile area after a brief pursuit Thursday morning.

Officers followed behind the truck, which maintained a slow speed and at one point was stopped near the La Brea Tar Pits.

The driver then continued on before driving over a spike strip. Shortly after that, the driver got out of the truck and surrendered to officers on Sixth Street near Curson Avenue in Mid-Wilshire neighborhood.

Los Angeles police said the chase started about 6:50 a.m., and the truck contained about 2,000 gallons of liquid. The driver surrendered about 7:25 a.m.

It was unknown how or from where the truck was initially stolen, or what exactly was inside the tank.
