A driver died Thursday after apparently losing control of their vehicle in Lancaster and slamming into two parked vehicles, including a California Highway Patrol car, according to CHP officials.

A CHP officer made a traffic stop near 50th Street West and West Avenue E (map) around 6:55 a.m. and was writing a citation when he heard tires screeching and witnessed a third vehicle not part of the stop appear to lose control, CHP spokeswoman Gil Hernandez said.

The third vehicle struck the CHP car and Toyota Camry that was receiving the citation.

The patrol car hit the officer and threw him into a wash. He sustained minor injuries and was treated at Palmdale Regional Medical Center.

The driver of the Toyota Camry also sustained minor injuries.

The individual who lost control was taken to Antelope Valley Hospital and died a few hours later.
