One person died when a small, single-engine plane crashed into a hillside near Beverly Glen Drive Saturday night.
The search for the aircraft started around 8:09 p.m. when the aircraft, a Cessna Skyhawk 172S, was first reported missing in the Beverly Crest area, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
The airplane was believed to be traveling between Bermuda Dunes Airport and Van Nuys Airport.
LAFD helicopter and ground crews searched the region amid heavy fog for about an hour when they “localized a signal from an aircraft Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon” within a quarter-mile of the Beverly Glen Terrace and Beverly Glen Boulevard area.
They located the plane near homes on Beverly Glen Circle. One person was found dead inside. The victim’s identity was not immediately available.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
