Two people killed in the Erskine Fire were identified Monday by a Bakersfield TV station.
Byron and Gladys McKaig died when they were overcome by smoke and flames in the Kern County blaze last Friday, KERO reported.
The couple belonged to St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Kernville and had three daughters, according to the station.
The fire is currently 40 percent contained at more than 45,380 acres, according to the federal InciWeb information page.
The wildfire broke out and exploded in Lake Isabella on Thursday, destroying about 150 structures and prompting hundreds of evacuations. Full containment is expected on Thursday.
The Federal Management team lifted some of the evacuation orders Monday, allowing some residents to return to their homes.
The blaze remains under investigation and has cost about $7.6 million so far.
