U.S. Coast Guard officials Thursday said they were looking for a man who fell off a boat off the Catalina Island coast.

About 11:25 a.m. Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach received a notification from a boater on a 15-foot skiff near China Point that a rouge wave had caused both passengers to fall into the water.

Neither boater was wearing a lifejacket, officials said.

One boater made it back to the boat and was able to alert the Coast Guard. He was taken to a hospital with minor injuries, officials said.

Coast Guard and Los Angeles County Sheriff’s helicopters were called to assist in the search, along with members of Baywatch Avalon, Baywatch Isthmus, Baywatch Cabrillo and Los Angeles County and city fire departments.

The 22-year-old man was last seen wearing a black sweatshirt and black pants, according to the Coast Guard.
