A 2-year-old girl has been found safe in Arizona after allegedly being abducted on Wednesday by her biological parents, authorities said.
Mariah Salguero was located about 10 p.m. PDT, according to a spokesman with the Los Angeles Police Department’s Central Division. It was not immediately clear how the girl was found or by whom.
She is expected to be returned to Los Angeles to be reunited with her maternal grandmother, and detectives were continuing to investigate the case, the spokesman said early Thursday morning.
Mariah’s grandmother had just been granted temporary custody of the toddler in L.A. Superior Court at about 11:30 a.m. Wednesday when her parents allegedly took her from the courtroom, a news release from the Los Angeles Police Department stated.
She was last seen walking with her parents and several family members, according to the release.
The parents may have been headed to Arizona, where they have relatives, police said.
A Child Abduction Regional Emergency, or C.A.R.E., Alert was issued by the LAPD early Wednesday evening.
Mariah was described as Hispanic, standing 2 feet tall and weighing about 25 pounds, and with brown hair and brown eyes, the release stated.
Her father, identified as Christopher Salguero, was described by police as Hispanic, standing 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighing approximately 190 pounds, according to the release. He is 25 years old.
The mother, identified by police as Rosa Chairez, was described as Hispanic, standing 5 feet 2 inches tall, weighing about 150 pounds, with red hair and brown eyes, the release stated.
No vehicle description was available, and an Amber Alert was not issued.
