An investigation is underway into what caused a car to slam into two power poles in Arcadia Sunday night. The driver was killed and two passengers were injured.

The crash occurred just after 11:30 p.m. near the intersection of Las Tunas Drive and El Monte Avenue, according to a news release from the Arcadia Police Department.

Arriving officers found a car had left the roadway and struck two power poles and a flood control fence before coming to a stop.

Video from the scene showed the obliterated vehicle on Las Tunas Drive, with one wooden power pole left hanging in midair, its base sheared off.

The unidentified driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Two passengers were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of minor injuries, according to the Police Department.

Speed does appear to be a contributing factor in the incident but the cause is still under investigation, a Police Department spokesperson said. The driver had been going eastbound, police said.

A Southern California Edison crew was called to the area to repair the power poles.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call the Police Department at 626-574-5151. Those who prefer to remain anonymous can contact Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.
