Police were investigating a fatal crash Wednesday that took the life of a 47-year-old female pedestrian near a high school in Irvine.

The victim was walking next to Arnold O. Beckman High School (map) near the intersection of Bryan Avenue and Patriot Way at about 11 a.m. when she was struck by a Kia sedan, the Irvine Police Department stated in a news release.

The woman struck by the Kia was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Police Department.

The Orange County coroner’s office identified her as Oanh Tran, 47, of Costa Mesa. Police had initially said the victim was from Irvine.

The male driver was taken to a local hospital with serious traumatic injuries, Farrah Emami, a spokeswoman for the Police Department said.

Neither the victim nor the driver was related to the school, according to the news release.

The collision was under investigation by the Irvine Police Department Major Accident Investigation team, the news release stated.

Bryan Avenue was closed between Culver Drive and El Camino Real North during the investigation.
