An early education center and an elementary school were locked down while a bomb squad investigated a suspicious package in Canoga Park Tuesday morning, an LAUSD official said.
The package was found near the Canoga Park Early Education Center (map) and Canoga Park Elementary School (map), forcing both to be placed on lockdown, according to Ellen Morgan of the Los Angeles Unified School District.
The incident was reported at about 8:35 a.m. and a bomb squad was sent to the area, according to Los Angeles Police Department Officer Liliana Preciado.
Students in classrooms near Valerio Street were moved to a safer location on campus, Morgan said.
Bomb Squad investigators determined the package was not a threat and student would be allowed to return to classes, Morgan stated in an email at about 10:30 a.m.
The LAUSD initially reported that Canoga Park High School was placed on lockdown, but later indicated the school was not affected.
